Little Pieces of Heaven

After an exhausting day spent with my twin 6-year old cousins at the National Zoo, I didn’t really feel up to doing anything but strolling around Bethesda (which is in the District – and I love saying “the District” because…well, there’s just something romantic about saying that to me) and picking up some ice cream. And, just to let you know, dealing with 6 year olds (who will most likely be future foodies seeing as my food-obsessed auntie is their mother) is like dealing with food prima donna’s… “BUT…I DON’T LIKE THE ORANGE TASTE,” and “WHY DID YOU ONLY BUY ONE BOWL?” ...Moving on.
There are some events in life that are meant to be shared with friends and ice cream – delicious, amazing, beautiful ice cream.
My co-intern friend, Alex, and I had an absolutely spiffy heart-to-heart and I daresay it was provoked by this little frozen yogurt dish. SweetGreen (a place that sells extremely fresh salads, all-natural frozen yogurt, and has a chic green restaurant concept) had a really great idea à sell frozen yogurt that actually tastes like yogurt that’s been frozen; non of this frozen yogurt crap that ends up tasting like thick ice cream + chemicals. Besides being able to taste the pure yogurt flavor in this ice cream, the 3 sides that I got were fresh (strawberries, blueberries, mangos)! And, what the heck, they had mango as a side!! Who does that! I love mango! IT WAS SO GOOD! I was also exceptionally glad that my fellow foodie, Alex, was there to enjoy the little dessert with me. It’s always nice to have a fellow foodie with you; that way, when your eyes get really big with surprise and delight from food and you start exclaiming how “amazing” something tastes, you’re not alone and you end up not looking like a neurotic food psychopath - all good things in my book. As we ate this delicious little piece of heaven, and strolled around Bethesda late at night, I couldn’t help but ask Alex questions which I hadn’t had the chance to ask before because…well, it’s like I said, sometimes things are best asked over ice cream (really good ice cream). Try it. There’s something about the stuff that just makes it seem like everything is right in the world; sitting down and talking closely with a good friend, eating something that cools your mouth and loosens your tongue in the summer heat. I absolutely loved that night. Alex shared a story. I shared a story. ...Can't get too much better then that.
